Senior Data Engineer – Contract | London | Up to £1300/day

A leading hedge fund is seeking a Senior Data Engineer Consultant to join its high-performing team on a 6-month rolling contract. This is a hybrid London-based role with the potential to convert to permanent for the right candidate.

This opportunity is ideal for a seasoned engineer with deep experience in building robust data pipelines from diverse sources—including web scrapes, PDFs, and real-time feeds—and a strong grasp of cloud-based infrastructure and database design.

Role Overview:

You’ll collaborate closely with Research, Engineering, and Trading teams to deliver mission-critical data onboarding initiatives that directly support investment decision-making. The role demands both technical depth and the ability to communicate effectively across functions.

Key Responsibilities:

Design and optimize ETL pipelines for alternate data sources
Build scalable solutions for real-time and batch data ingestion
Implement and manage SQL Server and cloud-based databases
Partner with stakeholders to gather requirements and manage vendor relationships
Continuously evaluate new tools to improve data quality and efficiency

Required Experience:

5+ years in data engineering, with strong ETL and real-time processing skills
Advanced Python skills; C++ knowledge is a plus
Proficient in SQL and SQL Server
Experience with cloud platforms and data infrastructure
Strong analytical and algorithmic thinking
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement

Desirable Skills:

Experience with Google Cloud Platform
Familiarity with big data tools (Hadoop, Spark, Kafka)
Understanding of data governance and compliance
