Job Description

Platform Engineering Lead

Location: London / Hybrid
Type: Permanent
Salary: Competitive + Bonus + Benefits

We’re hiring a Platform Engineering Lead to take ownership of a growing technical team building the core infrastructure and services behind next-generation risk tooling for a major financial institution.

This is a rare opportunity to lead at an early stage of platform maturity, with strong buy-in from the business and clear momentum for growth.

The Role;

You’ll be leading two closely connected teams:

  • A DevOps / Platform Engineering team responsible for the infrastructure, cloud-native architecture, deployment tooling, and core shared services.

  • A Risk Tooling team building high-performance, Python-based applications and APIs that power complex financial and risk analytics – used by quantitative teams and financial analysts.

These tools and platforms enable quants to access scalable compute, pricing models, and risk analysis capabilities — via well-structured APIs and interfaces, not direct support.

Key Responsibilities;

  • Lead and mentor a team of ~10 engineers across DevOps and application development.

  • Drive the delivery of a broad, scalable platform underpinning risk systems and financial applications.

  • Build and extend services and APIs for distributed compute, options pricing, and financial data analytics.

  • Manage both infrastructure reliability and application-level capabilities in a modern cloud/Kubernetes environment.

  • Act as the technical authority, evaluating tools, designs, and approaches with a focus on long-term impact and sustainability.

About You;

  • Strong leadership experience managing engineering teams (platform, DevOps, or application-focused).

  • Deep Python expertise, ideally within a finance or analytics context – e.g., experience with platforms like Quartz, Athena, or JPMorgan internal systems.

  • Comfortable with cloud-native engineering (AWS, GCP), Kubernetes, and CI/CD.

  • Experience building and scaling RESTful APIs and distributed systems.

  • Exposure to financial risk or derivatives pricing is a plus.

  • Bonus: familiarity with front-end technologies such as TypeScript and React.

  • Organised, technically credible, and able to balance hands-on understanding with team strategy and delivery.

Why This Role?

  • Join near the ground floor of a platform with proven business buy-in and massive potential.

  • Build systems with real-world impact in financial markets.

  • Be the lead voice shaping the platform’s growth — with autonomy and visibility.

  • Work on both the infrastructure and analytical tooling layers — across compute, APIs, and developer experience.
